Professor Cao is a full professor and vice dean of College Committee at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT). Cao leads the research group of energy-applied synthetic elastomers. He serves the associate editor of RSC Applied Polymers (2023.05-) and Supramolecular Materials (2022.10-), Editorial Board of Macromolecules (2022-2024), MRS Communications and Scientific Reports. After his Ph.D. in the Macro department at Case Western Reserve University, Cao moved to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and had been a staff scientist since Jan. 2019. Prof. Cao has published over 120 journal publications with over 70 papers as the corresponding authors in Nat. Commun., Matter, Energy & Environ. Sci., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater. , and Macromolecules. He has authored 3 book chapters and 10 authorized international patents. Prof. Cao has also been awarded the R&D 100 Award of 2021, ACS-PMSE Young-Investigator Award of 2021, ACS-Rising Star in Materials Science of 2023 and the RSC-Materials Horizon Emerging Investigator of 2024. His current research interests are synthetic elastomers for energy-related applications, including recyclable, self-healing and adhesive elastomers, polymer electrolytes and passive radiative cooling materials.
